I am a cisgender and queer identified provider and a long-time accomplice to transgender and GNC community members. I provide LGBTQQIA+ affirming therapy, informed consent evaluations, referral letters, and continuity of care support for trans and GNC folks seeking ease is accessing medical health care. I am a member in good standing of the World Professional Association for Transgender Heath. For more information on the WPATH standards of care click HERE.
Since 2003 I have worked in recovery programming and I find that the two can (although not always) co-occur. I treat each patient's complex recovery goals with warmth, validation, education, and patience. I do not expect patients to be abstinent to begin or remain in therapy. If you are working a 12-step program or recovering in another way, I look forward to being a support to you on your journey.
April 2017: Thanks so much for your interest in my practice! I am not currently taking any new general adult mental health patients, Somatic Experiencing patients, or patients seeking support for transgender and GNC access to care. I am the direct clinical supervisor of Patty Adams, LCSWA at Carolina Partners in Mental Healthcare, PLLC and am coordinating care with her and her case load. Patty is a stellar clinician and you can learn more about her practice HERE. If you are seeking supportive psychotherapy, medical care, or ancilliary care for needs related to your experience of your gender please reference the GSDI Resource list HERE. If you are interested in pursuing Somatic Experiencing for trauma treatment, you can search the database of SEP trained clinicians maintained by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute HERE.
As a relational therapist I value connection and empathy. Instead of the traditional expert-patient model, which is based on separation and hierarchy, the relational approach emphasizes collaboration and trust. For more information about Relational-Cultural Therapy click HERE. I also strongly subscribe to an anti-oppression framework in my clinical work and personal relationships.
